Vigan City is the lone city from the Philippines that made it to the elite list of the Top 28 World Cities of the latest New7Wonders Cities campaign which recognizes places that “best represent the achievements and aspirations of our global urban civilization.

The Philippines northern city of Vigan, is a UNESCO World Heritage site that was also dubbed as the “best example of a planned Spanish colonial town in Asia.” The announcement of the Top 28 Finalist was announced by Bernard Weber, the Founder-President of New7Wonders.
The worldwide poll’s annoncement of finalists marks the launch of the Finalist stage of the global election or the public voting, which will now run across three elimination phases and end on December 7, 2014.
The Finalist were chosen by popular vote and advised by a panel of experts, composed of well-known individuals from various parts of the world who made a name for themselves. They were Professor Federico Mayor, Zaha Hadid, Professor Winy M(–foul word(s) removed–), Simon Anholt, Bernard Weber, Kennedy Odebe and Professor Amitabh Kundu.

Philippines is considered as one of the strong contender in the competition after the huge success of Palawan’s “Puerto Princesa Underground River” that was named as one of the “New7WondersofNature” during the year 2011. The Underground River joins the Amazon Rainforest in South America, Ha Long Bay in Vietnam, Iguazu Falls in Argentina/Brazil, Jeju Island in South Korea, Komodo National Park in Indonesia, and the Table Mountain in South Africa.
