Richard Pestillos: Navy Seamarshall Hero of Cebu Ship Sinking

A navy seamarshall aboard MV Aquinas was hailed as a hero for his deeds after the ferry sank following a collision with a cargo ship off the coast of Talisay City, Cebu.

According to Navy spokesman Lt. Comdr. Gregory Fabic said Seaman First Radarman (S1RD) Richard Pestillos helped the crew of the ill-fated vessel in distributing life vests and jackets to the p(–foul word(s) removed–)engers before jumping off the ship on Friday night.

Aside from his heroism while on board the ship before the sinking, while in the water, Pestillos was able to save five p(–foul word(s) removed–)engers which includes two children. The Navy seamarshall suffered contusions in the back and is now in a stbale condition at the Pier 4 Hotel in Cebu.

The Philippine Coast Guard and Navy divers were dispatched by the government for the search and rescue of the missing p(–foul word(s) removed–)engers of 2GO vessel, MV Saint Aquinas.
