Gilas Pilipinas Featured in FIBA World Cup 2014 Trailer (Video)

The silver medalist of the recently concluded FIBA Asia 2013 Championships, Gilas Pilipinas is now featured in latest FIBA World Cup 2014 trailer, showcasing their skills as one of the best basketball team in the world.

As a Filipino blogger who have been following the journey of Gilas Pilipinas securing a slot for the FIBA World Cup after three decades of absence felt honored and a bit thrilled as I watched my fellow Filipinos featured in the trailer of the upcoming World Cup of Basketball to be held in Spain in 2014.

The newest trailer released by FIBA includes Gilas-Pilipinas cagers Japeth Aguilar’s monstrous dunk, Larry Fonacier celebrating and thanking the Lord for a victory. Jimmy Alapag nailing a three-pointers that sealed the game-winning shot to book the Philippines’ seat to FIBA World Cup and end the Korean curse in Philippine basketball.

As the Philippines returns to the map of world basketball let us join hands in supporting our very own Filipino players who will represent us in the world stage. Let us hope that the Gilas Pilipinas will bring back the lost glory of Philippine basketball, once hailed as the “basketball king of Asia.”

For the record: The Philippines is the only country in Asia with the highest achieving performance in world basketball, winning the bronze medal during the 1954 FIBA World Championships held in Rio de Janiero, Brazil. During the 1935 Berlin Olympics the Philippines ranked fifth, the highest ranking of any Asian Team since the inception of basketball in the Summer Olympics.
