The big man and most prolific scorer of the Gilas Pilipinas national team, Marcus Douthit, is optimistic that the Philippines could make it to the Top 3 in the upcoming FIBA Asia Championship this coming August 2013.
The naturalized Filipino center from the US is upbeat on the chances of the Philippine National Men’s Basketball Team. He was quoted as saying that “This is the best team we got to do what we need to do, and I am happy the management and our basketball officials are in this together,” said Douthit in the PBA website.
The 33-year-old Marcus adds further “I think this is a line-up put together to compete for a medal.” Douthit wanted to help the Philippines for a rare chance of making it to the prestigious 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup to be held in Spain.
The Gilas Pilipinas mentored by national team coach, Chot Reyes is currently on tight preparations to determine the final pool of the Philippine team. They will be flying to Lithuania on Sunday for a two-week training camp fitting against top Lithuanian ball clubs.
The Philippines’ hosting of the FIBA Asia Championship will be added bonus for Gilas Pilipinas according to Marcus Douthit, he strongly believed that the Filipinos will support their team at home and there’s a bigger chances of winning at home.
