The undefeated Mexican fighter Abner Mares continued his winning streak by defeating fellow Mexican, Juan Ponce de Leon in a 9th round TKO during the under card of the highly-anticipated Floyd Mayweather vs. Robert Guerero on Saturday night (US Time).
Mares improved his record to 25-0-1, 14 KO and captured the WBC Featherweight title from Daniel Ponce De Leon who dropped his record to 44-5, 35 KO’s. The match ended with a 9th round TKO stoppage when the referee saw that De Leon was not able to depend himself.
Juan Ponce de Leon, the fighter who defeated Filipino fighters, Gerry Penalosa and Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista suffered a knocked down during the second round as well as the 9th round of the game.
