The Philippines’ Department of Education (DepEd) confirmed on Tuesday that they have already received at least 180 complaints against schools collecting graduation fees.
According to the DepEd DeTXT Action Center Officer-in-charge Demetria Manuel who stated that most of the complaints have came from the National Capital Region, Central Luzon and Region 4-A.
Based upon the reports submitted to DepEd, there are schools who charged their students a graduation fee which amounts to P500 and P600 while the other schools were charging between P150 up to P300.
The DepEd complaints section against school collecting graduation fees were already forwarded to the regional and division office of the erring schools for investigation and actions.
For more complaints and clarification regarding the issue, the DepEd encourage the reporting of anomalies from schools collecting graduation fees. They have already set aside two hotline numbers —636-1663 and 633-1942. The public may call in their complaints with the hotline numbers.
