A p(–foul word(s) removed–)enger vessel of the Besta Shipping Lines, the MV Baleno 168 sinks off the coast of Calapan City in Oriental Mindoro. The roll-on roll-off vessel sustained damage to its profeller while preparing to dock on Thursday, January 31, 2013.
A total of 55 p(–foul word(s) removed–)engers were rescued from M/V Baleno 168, the p(–foul word(s) removed–)enger vessel lied on its side after taking on water. According to the Philippine Coast Guard, all p(–foul word(s) removed–)engers were safe during the incident but all the rolling cargoes were still on board.
According to the initial report of the Coast Guard, the ship was maneuvering to dock in Calapan when an unusual sound came from the vessel’s engine at around 9:30 AM.
The crew found out later that the starboard propeller was pulled out about two meters along its shank, as reported by PCG spokesman Lt. Cmdr. Armand Balilo.
The captain of M/V Baleno 168, Capt. Marlon Delda stated that the vessel partially sank at around 10 AM, after taking on water and when the crew shut the ship’s engine down.
