The Feast of the Black Nazarene will be celebrated on January 9, 2013 and in order for the devotees to attend the celebration, selected Manila schools suspend their classes.
Some of Manila’s schools and universities have already announced that they will suspend classes on Wednesday, January 9, 2013.
The Mayor of Manila on his part, Mayor Alfredo Lim ordered suspension of classes in schools along the route that will be affected by the Black Nazarene procession. He ordered the suspension of classes in the following schools:
- Manila Science High School
- Araullo High School
- Geronimo Santiago Elementary School
- V Mapa High School; Manila High School
- Ramon Avancena High School
- Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila
- Universidad De Manila (previously called City College of Manila)
Prominent universities such as UST, FEU and San Beda have already declared suspension of classes in all levels.
