The highly-acclaimed movie “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” tops the Philippine box office ratings on its opening weekend, earning more than P55 Million.
The confirmation was made by Francis Soliven, general manager of Warner Bros. (F.E.) Inc. in a report published on Monday.
The opening week of the movie represents the biggest opening ever for any film in the canon of “The Lord of the Rings.”
The movie directed by Peter Jackson was based on epic trilogy based on the novel of J.R.R. Tolkien. The films tells the continuous story set in Middle-Earth 60 years befor “The Lord of the Rings.”
Meanwhile the movie’s US opening was estimated at $84.775 Millions domestically and $138.2 Millions internationally.
