GDG DevFest Bacolod A Phenomenal Success

The Google Developers Group Philippines have successfully held the first-ever GDG DevFest in Bacolod City in one of the most popular hotel in the Cit of Smiles at Sugarland Hotel Bacolod on November 5, 2012.

The GDG Philippines team from Manila have coordinated with the local groups of GDG Bacolod and held a one day sessions with some of the Philippines most prominent members of the Google Community.

During the morning session, all attendees which includes members of the academic community, the developers, the marketing and business community members converged in an interesting morning sessions tackling about different local projects by developers from the province of Negros Occidental.

Two of the most popular members of Google Southeast Asia made some presentations during the early part of the GDG Bacolod Devfest. Ailen Apolo-de Jesus, Leader of Outreach Program for Southeast Asia for Google made the keynote speech. Janet Yoon, the head of Google Apps Supporting Program for Philippines,  made an introduction about the Google Apps.

The emcee during the morning session of the GDG DevFest Bacolod was Anne Olvido of the Bacolod Google Developer Group. The WiFi Access for the attendees of the GDG Bacolod DevFest was provided by Google Labs.

Right after the lunch the technical and non-technical tracks were divided into groups each with different speakers. I have personally attended the non-technical tracks while my business partner attended the technical tracks composed of different developers from different parts of Bacolod City and Negros Occidental.

The non-technical track were attended with the members of the academic community, business owners, marketers and bloggers. Celine Barrozo, a business analyst from Orange and Bronze Software Labs conducted lectures about the different tips and tricks in using Gmail, especially the contacts and tasks. She also discussed about Google Drive and other topics.

Chelle Grey, the Chief Business Development Officer of CodeFlux, on the other hand discussed about the uses of YouTube for Education while Rosario “Ros” Juan, the Social Media Strategist of Netbooster Asia discussed about the latest trends on Social Media Marketing.
