After the canonization of Saint Pedro Calungsod, the Catholic Church of the Philippines is optimistic with the next generation of saints who were Filipinos.
Saint Pedro Calungsod was finally declared as the second Filipino saint on October 21, 2012 through a simple solemn celebration at the Vatican City.
According to Fr. Aris Sison of the Immaculate Conception Cathedral of Cubal, he is hoping that the next Filipino Saint will not take more than 25 years to declare another Filipino elevated into sainthood.
Fr. Sison named other three candidates which were led by Mother Ignacia del Espiritu Santo, followed by Isabel Larrañaga Ramirez and Lucena Bishop Alfredo Maria Obviar.
Mother Ignacia del Espiritu Santo was the foundress of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Religious of the Virgin Mary, the first religious congregation for women in the Philippines.
The second candidate was Isabel Larrañaga Ramirez established the Sisters of Charity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, an organization targeting Catholic education for the youth. She was declared as Servant of God and elevated to venerable by Pope John Paul II.
The third probable Filipino saint is the late Lucena Bishop Alfredo Maria Obviar, who died on October 1, 1978. He was declared as Servant of God on March 6, 2001. He was the founder of the Missionary Catechists of St. Therese
