Phil and James Younghusband Willing to Play for the Azkals for Free

The Philippine Azkals most recognized members Phil and James Younghusband made a statement that they are willing to play for the Azkals for free and without compensation after numerous rumors have started to surface that the reasons why they were not included in the Azkals line-up is because of financial reasons.

Despite the numerous commitments that the Younghusband brothers have aside from their part in the National Football Team they are still willing to play for the team.

Phil was quoted as saying that “We have other commitments but we would play for the Azkals for free,” Phil told News5′s Chiqui Roa-Puno on Monday.

According to the press release made by the Philippine Football Federation, regarding the reasons why they did not include the Younghusbands on their line-up is because of financial reasons.

They stated that “There are certain economic and non-economic demands which we cannot meet.” The statement was made by PFF communications head Ebong Joson, who added that the group cannot pay for even half the amount the brothers were asking for.

Phil Younghusband stated that they have other commitments so when the PFF told them to sign a contract they did not sign it for the reasons that they cannot fully commit with the team.

Coach Weiss on his part made a statement that “It was too much. They had a promise,” Weiss said, adding that the brothers vowed fully to devote themselves to the national team starting September but they failed to do.

Phil and James were two of the most supportive members of the Philippine Azkals since the year 2005, the former coach of Azkals, Simon McMenemy came to the rescue and depended his former players with regards to Philippine commitments.
