The Philippine National Basketball Team made a strong offensive threat at the final quarter of the game against Chinese Taipei with a 14-point lead and never looked back to clinched a semi-finals slot in the FIBA Asia Cup. The game ended with the final score at 75-68.
Gary David of Smart Gilas contributed with 14 points and 13 rebounds, Douthit added with 19 points and 18 big rebounds, De Ocampo scored with 10 points, Fonacier have 9 points, Dillinger and Chan added with 5 points each while Norwood scored wtih 4 points.
The Philippines opened the third quarter with 17-4 (–foul word(s) removed–)ault to bury the Chinese Taipei team. Gary David made an excellent contributions with some crucial shots in the game.
The Taiwanese rebounded and came close in the final 1:52 minutes left in the fourth quarter with the score at 71-66 but it was not enough as they were out of time because of the intense defense provided by Smart Gilas.
Chinese-American player Creighton topscored for Taiwan as he scored with a total of 21 points, most of them came from the three-point area. He was supported by Lin with 12 and Chin with Shen with 11 points.
