Charlie Naysmith: Found Chunk of Ambergris on the Beach at Hengistbury

A rare piece of whale vomit found by a boy named Charlie Naysmith could make him a lot of money for his unexpected discovery of the rare material that can be use to prolong the scent of a perfume.

The find could worth as much as £40,000 according to some experts, the big chunk that looked like a yellowish beige rock with a waxy finish is one of the rarest material available.

The 8-year-old Charlie Naysmith stated that he discovered the 600 grams solid piece of sick after taking a stroll along Hengistburry Head, near Bournemouth.

The substance was vomited or excreted by sperm whales and through decades of floating and exposure to the sun and salt it turned the substance into a smooth lump of compact rock which feels waxy and has a sweet smell.

Technically speaking the substance was called as an ambergris, the substance is highly sought after with perfume makers as it helps prolong the scent of perfume. The estimated cost of the whale waste sell for as much as £6,300 per pound.

Charlie Naysmith came from Christchurch and a pupil of St. Katharine’s school in Southbourne. His father Alex Naysmith called on the authorities to help them with the rare find.
