Tony Scott: ‘Top Gun’ Director Died After Jumping From Bridge

British Director of Hollywood’s Top Gun died after he jumped from Los Angeles County Bridge. The 68-year-old popularized some of Hollywood’s box office films such as the Beverly Cops 2, and Days of Thunder to name a few.

The incident happened at around 12:35 PM when several people have already called 911 for a report that someone had jumped from the Vincent Thomas Bridge which spans from San Pedros and Terminal Island at Los Angeles Harbor.

The bridge where the director finished his life was completed in 1963, it measures 6,060 feet and rises 185 feet at it’s highest point. The bridge was used on Hollywood Productions such as Charlie’s Angels, Gone in 60 seconds and The Fast and The Furious.

The body of the ill-fated director was recovered by the Los Angeles Police Dive Team several hours later. The body was then taken to a dock in Wilmington and turned over to the country coroner’s office.

According to the investigators, they have found a note in Scott’s black Toyota Prius, that listed some contact information. The suicide note on the other hand was found in his office.

Tony Scott was the brother of Ridley Scott who himself was also an acclaimed director, Ridley was the director of the Academy Award winning film Gladiator way back 2000. It also earned one of Ridley’s best director nominations.

Both the Scott brothers ran Scott Free Productions and were working jointly on a film called “Killing Lincoln,” based on the best seller by Bill O’Reilly.

Scott was married to actress Donna Scott, who appeared in several of her husband’s films. They have twin sons.
Completed in 1963, the 6,060-foot Vincent Thomas Bridge links rises 185 feet at its highest point above the Los Angeles Harbor. Many have taken their lives by jumping from the span.
The bridge has been used in many Hollywood productions, among them “Charlie’s Angels,” ”Gone in 60 Seconds” and “The Fast and the Furious.”
