The Philippine Team, Smart Gilas Pilipinas showed their character in the final minutes of the game against powerhouse Jordan as they defeated the Middle Eastern Team with the final score at 88-78.
A triumphant return for the Philippine team which is currently mentored by PBA veteran coach Chot Reyes. Tomorrow the Philippines will face one of the Chinese Taipei Team.
Smart Gilas Pilipinas joined the ranks of South Korea and Iran as the undefeated team in the tournament in the earlier stage of the competition.
Coach Chot Reyes used the service of naturalized player Marcus Douthit who led the team’s surging effort at the final minutes of the game. Ranidel de Ocampo on his part made some important baskets while Larry Fonacier buried some three-pointers that sealed their win against the Jordanian.
Other players being used by Coach Reyes and performed well were Sonny Thoss, LA Tenorio, Mac Baracael, Jeff Chan, Gabe Norwood, Rico Villanueva, Gary David, Sol Mercado, JayR Reyes, Fil-Am recruit Matt Rosser and PBA D-League star Garvo Lanete.
The Jordanian Team was led by veteran point guard and one of Jordan’s main man Rashed Wright who was able to scared the Philippine National Basketball Team.
