Nonito “The Filipino Flash” will be facing one of the toughest fight of his career as he is scheduled to go up against the current IBF Super Bantamweight Title Holder Jeffrey “Mongoose” Mathebula of South Africa for a unification bout of the WBO and IBF Bantamweight Title.
Top Rank Promotions have set a dated for the Donaire vs. Mathebula fight this coming July 7 to be held at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. Nonito Donaire is one of the pound-for-pound contender from the Philippines who ranks alongside Filipino world champion Manny Pacquiao.
Donaire (28-1, 18 KO) won the vacant WBO title during his last fight on February 4, defeating Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. in San Antonio while Mathebula (26-3-2, 14 KO) will gamble his IBF title to this fight, he is considered as more superior fighter compared to Donaire’s original opponent for the July fight, Cristian Mijares.
One of the disadvantages of Donaire was his height compared to Mathebula, the Filipino Champion stands at stands at 5’7″, while the South African champion is 5’10”.
