If you were to ask someone what is their favorite video game, don’t argue with me when I bet its the frenzy and hot-tempered “Angry Birds!” Yes, it’s not surprising because even my nephew who is 4 years old can make the birds angry against the greedy pigs.
“Angry Birds”, which was first introduced for Apple’s iOS in December 2009 was developed by Finnish computer game developer Rovio Mobile, is a puzzle video game that inspired primarily by a sketch of stylized wingless birds, and with the use of slingshot, a player launches birds at pigs stationed on or within various structures to destroy and kill all the pigs on the playfield and as they advance through the game, new birds will appear and some with special abilities that can be activated.
Since its launch two years ago, the colourful flock of cute and mean-looking virtual birds fascinated the young and and even the old gamers with a combined 500 million downloads across all platforms and including both regular and special editions.
An 11-year-old Clifford Law said that he like playing Angry Birds on my mum’s phone because it’s fun and easy to play, and even a 26-years-old copywriter Pooja Narayanan also became addictive to its “cute and entertaining characters, and the noises they make.”
Also a 33-years-old quality and training specialist Gadhafee Abdul Rahim said he loved the game because it was challenging and if he don’t win all three stars, he didn’t feel satisfied.
Rovio’s seasonal versions such as Angry Birds Rio and Angry Birds Halloween has also been released and merchandise like plush toys, stationery and even clothes depicting the small cannonball-shaped birds and green pigs have achieved high sales worldwide.
Toys “R” Us Malaysia marketing manager Roanne Nisha revealed that Angry Birds merchandise were among the fastest-selling in its stores.
