Palestinian Authority to bid for statehood at UN General Assembly?

PalestineAfter the controversial walk out headed by two U.S diplomats, followed by many others while Iran President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had delivered his speech that had been hitting the United States and some of its allied countries, all eyes are still looking for another historic event to transpire in the United Nations General Assembly.

Early this week, news had been spreading that the Palestinian government headed by their President Mahmoud Abbas would be submitting an application to bid for the official statehood of Palestine and to be officially recognized by the United Nations.

Such attempt had been considered as an addition to the growing flame of gap and crisis between Israel and Palestine as the two had stop on having negotiation for almost a year.

On Wednesday, U.S President Barack Obama had met with the two leaders in order to talk regarding to the attempt to find better ways of patching the crisis.

On his speech on the assembly last Wednesday, as reported via nytimes.com, President Obama stressed that the international community must play their part as they push both Israelis and Palestinians to go back into the negotiation process. He further stated that Palestinian statehood can be achieved if the two would sit and negotiate together.

However, it seemed that the Palestinian leader is all set to hand the letter asking for full UN bid for nationhood to the U.N Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon on Friday despite the declaration of the United States to give a “veto.”

By definition, veto is used in a group or organization in order to stop or to block unilaterally a proposed change or action.

Palestinian plan to be recognized as a nation will be answered as they took the risk on facing a US “veto.” What would be happening next if ever the plan would be realized is something more to look forward.
