Pinoy Special Athletes Won 49 Medals in Special Olympics

49 medals won by the special Filipino athletes representing the Philippines in Athens, Greece for the ‘Special Olympics competition. Out of 49 medals won by the special athletes, they grabbed 22 gold medals from various events like athletics, swimming, gymnastics, power lifting, bowling and badminton.

They were all excited and very proud in spite of their physical condition. Margo Babst, one among the athlete won a gold medal for a Botch and Chris Gutam also won gold medal in the swimming. They have shared their experience during the competition. And another 3 gold medals won by Magiting Gonzales in power-lifting.

“I’m very glad being one of the Philippine Special Olympics. I will participate again on the next Special Olympics,” explained Gonzales.

According to the Philippine Special Olympics, their success in competition shows that individual incapability is not hindrance to prove that they can do just like our Olympians.

Maria Therese Macapagal president of Philippine Special Olympics said, “They were very proud to represent and bring the name of our country. They are not other than our athletes. They are just like our normal Olympians, they’ve also wearing coat.”

The ‘World Summer Games’ are held every 4-year. More than 170-countries have joined the last ‘World Summer Games’

But this time the travel of the special athlete were funded by private support. Now the Philippine Special Olympics management is appealing for support from the government for their continued giving honor to the country.
