SONA 2011: President Aquino to focus on Social Transformation

aquinoMANILA, Philippines – A year after he had started to lead the Philippines, President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III will be delivering his second State Of the Nation Address(SONA) today at the Batasang Pambansa with no new theatrics to give instead will focus in “social transformation” according to Malacanang.

Coming from the report published in a local newspaper, there were 8 to 9 drafts of speeches prepared for the SONA, and PNoy was able to see six of them.

Out of the many speculations on the possible content of the SONA, the palace on Sunday had given a little hint of what to expect by simply saying that the speech will include the President’s plan of establishing more changes in the society.

To maintain peace and order while the SONA is ongoing, 15,000 policemen are to be (–foul word(s) removed–)igned at the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City and in Manila.

Aside from that, it is already anticipated that rallies and protests will be held near the venue that is why Deputy Presidential Spokeswoman Abegail Valte is asking the people to conduct their activities peacefully. Furthermore, she is urging the Filipinos to listen to PNoy’s SONA as the President will give a true report of the countries status.

The palace stressed that they are listening to all the comments and criticisms coming from both sides may it be positive or negative.

There were questions arising especially the achievements and fulfilment of his plans and targets listed on his previous SONA. With all the opinions and statements mentioned by both the critics and supporters, the palace reminded the Filipinos that the president still have 5 more years to serve the country.

According to Valte, the President was not elected for one year of leadership; instead he was elected to lead the country for six years.

Previous reports mentioned that the SONA will also contain criticisms pointing to the previous administration. Moreover, it was also reported that former President and currently, Congresswoman Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will not be around during the event.
