Tawi-Tawi revives Human-Trafficking Council

Tawi-Tawi officials revived its Provincial Council against Trafficking of Persons (PCAT) last week, according to a report.

The reactivation of PCAT is meant to address the growing concerns on the increasing amount of human trafficking from Philippines to Malaysia, Mindanao Cross Global reported.

Tawi-Tawi governor Sadikul Sahali headed the PCAT reactivation meeting last week at Bongao.

Sahali said that local authorities have rescued 101 human-trafficking victims from June 2 to July 2 of this year alone. This include 82 females and three minors.

According to Norjannah Cajocom, Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao’s provincial coordinator for Tawi-Tawi, this human trafficking victims were promised monthly wages from P15,000 to P35,000 in Sabah and other Malaysian areas.

Cajocom said in a report that the victims were allegedly told to p(–foul word(s) removed–) through Taw-Tawi to Sabah, where their official documents will be made so they could fly to other countries like Brunei, Jeddah, Libya, and other countries in the Middle East.
