President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela had admitted on Thursday that he had gone under surgery to removed the cancerous tumor ending weeks of speculation that he was seriously ill. On a televised speech he stated that he had gone to Cuba and undergone a successful treatment and on the way to full recovery.
The health condition of the anti-American leader had been shrouded in mystery after an upcoming regional event had been delayed due to his unavailability. The President had kept silent his condition for he wanted to make a statement only if he will fully recovered from his ailment.
For the past few days the government of Venezuela refused to gave any statement regarding the health condition of their beloved leader. President Hugo Chavez was always present in any important events in Venezuela but for the past few occasions he was nowhere to be found.
President Hugo Chavez was considered as one of the heir of Cuban Leader Fidel Castro’s anti-US policy. He was vocal in supporting the long-time ally and friend. Fidel Castro of Cuba was the one who relayed the news to him of his cancer illness.
The Venezuelan leader did not gave any details about the particular cancer tumor that had been removed but he stated that the illness was a mistake of not taking care of his health through medical check ups.
President Hugo Chavez had no able successor possessing the same charisma that united the Venezuelan people for the past 12 years of his leadership. The leader on his televised appearance admitting his health problems looked thinner and spoke only for 15 minutes. He also looked tired reading his prepared speech.
President Hugo Chavez who had governed Venezuela since February 1999. His highest ranked on the Army was Lieutenant Colonel. He was born on July 28, 1954. He initiated the ideology of “Bolivarianism” and “Socialism for the 21st Century.”
President Hugo Chavez was listed as one of the 100 most influential people in the world according to Time Magazine lists. He was also voted in a British Magazine as one of the Heroes of our Time.
