After Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago renewed her wedding vows last Sunday at the Manila Cathedral, the fearless senator now faces the public and still expressed her support to the Divorce Bill and Reproductive Health Bill.
The two bills which are believed to be against the teaching of the church are being opposed by the Catholic Priests and other government officials who believe in the sacredness of life and Marriage.
According to Senator Miriam she still stands on her faith as a Roman Catholic but her decision to support the two Bills is part of her job to help the poor Filipino people especially the women.
Senator Miriam cleared out that she already sent a letter to Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales explaining her side weeks before her renewal of vows thus, she expect that the Catholic Church will respect her decision and said that she will always remain a committed Catholic devotee.
Miriam added that her faith must not hinder her advocacy to help the Filipino people and the country to rise from poverty.
The senator together with her husband Narciso Santiago celebrated their 40th year anniversary as couple and to acknowledge this another milestone event in their life, the two renewed their vows at Manila Cathedral which was officiated by Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales and was attended by many prominent and VIP closed to the two.
In her interview with the media after her wedding reception, Senator Miriam said that what she is doing is not for her self neither for political agenda but for those people who are suffering especially the poor Filipino woman who are violated and cannot exercise their right.
She further explained that it’s better for a marriage to end up or get divorced if both of the couple are already hurting each other than to stay as a couple but making their lives miserable.
