Rihanna is now faced with controversy about the video of her latest single ‘Man Down’. According to the reports, the video should not be aired on the television because it is against of violence in TV of its negative image. The said video, as what Rihanna said, is “a song about a girl who has committed a murder that she regrets and is completely remorseful about. You hear her crying to her mama, saying why she did it. It could have been somebody’s son. She didn’t mean to hurt him.”

The singer defended herself talking about the reality of her video to what is happening before our eyes. Rape is, unfortunately, happening all over the world and right in our own homes,” she said, “and we continue to cover it up, pretend it doesn’t happen.”

But the group that campaigns against violence on the TV regarded it as “an inexcusable, shock-only, shoot-and-kill theme song” opposite to what the BET mentioned in a statement “it is a comprehensive set of standards and guidelines that are applied to all of our content.”

Rihanna didn’t felt any regret in doing the video because she said that her female fans are “empowered” with it. She even tweeted just to thank her fans in supporting her. “I love you guys, and I love that u GOT IT!!!” “We’re strong innocent fun flirtatious vulnerable, and sometimes our innocence can cause us to be naive! We always think it could NEVER be us, but in reality, it can happen to ANY of us!”

Even though Rihanna was once a victim of beating of her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown, it doesn’t mean she really meant the video to defend herself with her past. The video itself is an evidence that people are but afraid to address the very serious matter happening around us.
