Social Weather Survey: Most Filipinos Favor Divorce

Divorce
Philippine is one of the countries did not legalize divorce

Survey conducted by the Social Weather Stations (SWS) from March 4- 7 shows that adult Filipinos regardless of their civil status are in favor that divorce will be implemented in the Philippines.

With the ratio of 1:2, the SWS concluded that half of the Filipino respondents agree to the proposed law which will state that couples who had been legally married for so long and fails to undergo reconciliation would be permitted to file a divorce and soon be allowed to get married once again.

A total of 1,200 adults throughout the country have been interviewed as the official result was then released yesterday.

While 33% of the respondents do not want divorce to be legalized, around 16% are left undecided about their stand concerning the proposed bill.

Further analysis indicates that there is a drastic increase in the number of adult Filipinos who support the divorce issue when compared to the SWS survey result taken last May 2005.

Those who were once in the stand for opposition had switched to support the planned implementation of divorce in the Philippines.

The shift is somewhat noticeable if one will try to examine and compare the SWS survey conducted in all the regions of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao in the previous years. Based on the survey, the current stand of those who have been interviewed is a representation that there is a strong evidence which proves that majority of the Filipino support the trending divorce issue.

Since the country is greatly influenced by the values of Christianity, it seems that the Philippines had been left behind with regards to the implementation of the divorce law.
