The movie “In The Name of Love” starring Angel Locsin and Aga Muhlach earned a slot as one of the top grossing movies worldwide according to a report from the (–foul word(s) removed–)ociated Press last May 19, 2011. The movie got a box office record sales amounting $1,917,443 (Philippine peso estimate was around P84 million).
The movie was Star Cinema’s 18th anniversary special presentation. On it’s first day on May 11, alone the movie had already recorded a P15 million worth of ticket sales which seldom happens in a locally produced movie. Even the premiere night which coincided with Justin Bieber Concert last May 1o, fans of Angel and Aga had flocked to SM Megamall for the much-needed support. During the week the movie itself competes with the highly anticipated released of popular Hollywood movies such as the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
“In The Name of Love” was listed and ranked at number 15 of the top 20 international top grossing movies in international theaters worldwide as of May 19, 2011. The movie tells about the story of Cedes (Angel Locsin) and Emman (Aga Muhlach) both were working as entertainers during the heydays of the Japayuki phenomenom. Both Angel and Aga showcased their exemplary performance perhaps nobody in the local movie industry could matched.
The film which was directed by Olivia Lamasan had once again captured the audience and bring about the best character both Aga and Angel could portray. It was also supported by the ever-reliable role by Dylan (Jake Cuenca) who portrays as a p(–foul word(s) removed–)ionate lover and a good person at heart.
With the achievement of the movie, the Filipino value of patriotism was again reignited which a good sign of renaissance of the local movie industry. When a Filipino movie listed in an international ranking it means a lot not only to the producers but for the Filipino people as a whole.
