Officials gave an honor to a British tourist Helen Beard for catching a 1-year-old girl who happened to fall from a fourth-floor balcony at a resort hotel in Orlando, Florida.
Helen Beard is keeping an eye on her son and her husband as she sits along the poolside of Econo Lodge Inn & Suites when she saw a one-year-old girl Jah-Nea Myles hanging from the hotel’s balcony.
It was Thursday at 9:15pm when that incident occurred.
Beard’s attention was caught seeing the little toddler hanging from the balcony. She immediately thought of a way to save the toddler’s life.
According to Beard, Jah-Nea Myles appeared to slip through the balcony’s alley. Hearing screams, this British visitor quickly ran and caught the little girl.
The mother of the baby, Helena Myles, was telling the media that she left Jah-Nea in the custody of her friends for a while. However, they were not able to notice that the baby had slipped outside their room.
There were no charges filed behind the case.
Beard, who is a health services analyst, relates that it was her instinct that she must be able to catch the baby. Still, she was hoping that somebody could catch Jah-Nea at that moment. Authorities say that Helen Beard’s quick thinking had saved the life of the little girl.
Such courageous deed made Helen Beard a hero. Because of her heroic action, she was able to receive a “Medal of Merit” given by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, the International Drive Chamber of Commerce and the state Department of Children and Families.
The rapid flow of such event surprised Helen Beard as everyone came to panic around her.
