John Gabriel Pelias set another record in the history of honor graduates at the University of the Philippines after he had achieved the highest grade among the 21-summa cum laude, 215 – magna cum laude and 794 – cum laude.
Pelias got a weighted average of 1.016 which was considered as the second highest after the 1.0 average achieved by Exequiel Sevilla in 1972.
Pelias had took up BS Math and aside from topping in his batch and in the history of UP honored grad, he also got the Best Thesis award for the rest of BS Math students as well as the BS Math Student Award and the College of Science had given him an Award of Excellence.
For this year, a total of 40000 students had graduated. When Pelias turn to deliver his speech he gave emphasis the fact that as a UP grad wherein they were called as ‘eskolar ng bayan’, they must not forget UP and the country, but instead, they had to give back to the country and to the people whose taxes were used to finance their education.
However, if there was someone who had set a new record for that special day, it would be the proud mother of Pelias who was really excited seeing how far her son had been through after all the hardships that they had invested.
