New Page for Journalist launched by Facebook

The famous social networking site, Facebook has launched a media resource page last Tuesday. This is to help journalist use the social network as a reporting tool and have a better connection with their audience and readers.

The new launched page is called the “Journalist on Facebook”. According to the blog post of Justin Osofsky, Facebook’s director of media partnership, the page is intended to be an ongoing resource for the growing number of reporters using Facebook to find sources, interact with readers, and advance stories.

Osofsky also added that the page is useful for the journalists for it provides best practices for integrating the latest Facebook products with their work and connecting with the audience in Facebook which is estimated to be 500 million people.

Since 2010, Facebook has been working with the journalist in making their content more social. Osofsky also added that this collaboration of the two has made the average media organization seen referral traffic from Facebook to soar over 300 percent over the years.

According to Facebook they are also planning to launch a program with workshops on how to use Facebook as a reporting tool and it is called “Facebook Journalism Meetup”.

The first meet up is said to be held at Facebook headquarters in Palo Alto, California, on April 27. Since the launching of the page, within hours of going up, the new page Journalist on Facebook had received nearly 2,300 likes.

Some famous anchor who are following the page and friending it were CBS television news anchor Katie Couric, ABC’s evening news anchor Diane Sawyer and ABC Sunday talk show host Christiane Amanpour, formerly of CNN.
