The ‘Armed Forces of the Philippines’ (AFP) is the most corrupt agency in the Philippines, according to the result of Pulse Asia nationwide survey from February 24 – March 6, 2011.

Out of 1,200 respondents, almost 5 in every 10 Filipino responded that AFP has the greatest corruption in the government.

This is a big impact from February 2009 survey wherein less than one in every ten Filipinos or 8.1 percent believed the corruption in the AFP.

Following to the lists of the most corrupt agencies of government is the Philippine National Police which has 26.7%, followed by the Department of Public Works and Highways and Bureau of Internal Revenue.

Since the survey was conducted in the midst of Senate and House of investigations in the plea bargain of Carlos Garcia and the exposure of ‘Pabaon’ by retired Col. George Rabsua, 18-percent responded the survey saying they knows the issue of corruption in the military.

There are 60-percent said they would continue the congressional hearings while 33-percent said just leave the issue to the court.

The AFP considered it as a challenge to their office regarding the results of the Pulse Asia survey.

General Eduardo Oban, AFP chief of Staff said, “I want to look at this and consider as a more challenge to my office, as a motivation for the entire institution to really exercise an aggressive step towards reforming.”

According to Malacañang, we should not condemn the entire AFP for the guilty of some officials.

According to Secretary Ricky Carandang of Communications Group, “We understand why people are thinking like that, because of the news headlines they knew. But we would not condemn the whole AFP because of a few very bad eggs there.”

But no matter what the AFP will say if nobody punished and put into prison because they were guilty it’s still difficult for the people to convince.
