Manila Philippines – The PNRI (Philippine nuclear research institute) doing constant updates to the developments with regards to the nuclear situation in Japan, “deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said.

It’s nice to say that the country still remains safe from the harmful radiation. Despite of the alert level no. 5 that was already raised on Japan at its nuclear plant in Fukushima, that had been badly damaged by the great calamity that was the quake and the tsunami last March 11, Malacañang said.

The government also (–foul word(s) removed–)ured the country’s alertness and readiness in facing such emergency situation just like what happened in Japan that eventually affects the Philippines.

Alert level 5 was also raised over the Three Mile Island accident in the United States. And according to the International Nuclear Events Scale (INES), an Alert level 5 already indicates an accident with wider consequences.

Because if that great threat Valte said that President Aquino instructed the government agencies to review the country’s disaster readiness plan, peculiarly in healing with the nuclear fallout. She also said that the Philippines National Radiology Emergency preparedness and Response Plan known as the PNRI the outlines contingency measures for dealing with the nuclear disaster.

Also the PNRI is invariably monitoring radioactivity levels in the country and is ready to make adjustments in the alert levels if necessary. She added.

Valte stated that they will also do their own monitoring and their own (–foul word(s) removed–)sment for possible effects here in the Philippines.

The secretary of the Department of Science and Technology Secretary Mario Montejo conciliate the fears and threats of the nuclear fallout. “Let us be calm. There is no reason to be alarmed. The DOST’s own monitoring and observation shows no threat to the Philippines. The country is under no threat,” he said on a statement.

“On March 16, Wednesday, the DOST and the PNRI released its finding that even in a worst case scenario, the Philippines is indeed away from the harmful threat from the harmful radiation that can be brought about by the accident.” He added

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) also said that the change and the increase of the Alert Level 5 signify that the situation at the nuclear plant is not stable yet it is not getting worse.
