5.8 Magnitude Earthquake hits Metro Manila

The earthquake’s epicenter had been traced in the coasts of Occidental Mindoro.

An earthquake had just hit the Philippines having a magnitude of 5.8 shaking its capital which is Metro Manila specifically to the cities of Makati and Quezon Monday.

Reports have been taken from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology early this evening. Updates: An intensity 4 earthquake hits Makati City on October 31, 2012.

According to the director of PHIVOLCS, Renato Solidum, the epicenter of the earthquake had been traced in the coasts of Occidental Mindoro focusing on the Lubang group of Islands found in the northern part of the country.

Lubang Islands is located at the northwest area of Occidental Mindoro and having 150 kilometers distance of southwest part of Metro Manila.

Such information had been confirmed via Solidum’s text message where a tremor had been identified to occur at exactly 6:37 p.m.

Solidum had stated that it was an intensity 3 earthquake that jolted around the cities of Metro Manila few hours ago.

The Phivolcs director informs the public not to worry regarding such event since earthquake normally visits the country of Philippines where it could experience about a matter of 20 earthquakes each single day.

It had been cited that the movement of the fault line that has been originated in the Lubang Islands as the reason why residents around Metro Manila was able to feel the tremor.

In addition to the sudden earthquake felt lately, the tremor had been measured by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) which had resulted to a 5.4 magnitude. At the moment, the quake’s epicenter had been specific to a distance of 57 kilometers west-northwest of Batangas.
