7,000 motorist and public utility drivers have been caught on the camera violating various traffic rules along the Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City. It was according to The Metropolitan Manila development Authority.
In Commonwealth Avenue were lane segregation and 60 kilometer per hour speed limit is implemented most of the violations came from this rule. Most of the motorists and utility drivers are breaching the bus lane or the yellow lane and commit over speeding. This is according to Metropolitan’s (–foul word(s) removed–)istant general manager attorney Emerson Carlos.
Open-door policy and obstruction of law were also among the rules that have been violated.
According to Mr. Carlos, motorist who were caught violating were not detained due to the agency’s no-contact policy.
He also added that MMDA’s newly acquired speed guns and cameras proven to be very useful to caught motorist who are violating traffic rules. “If violators think they have gotten away, wait till they receive notices to pay a penalty” he continued.
Motorist and utility drivers caught in the camera and speed gun violating the rules will be sent a notice form the MMDA containing the violation they have done with the corresponding amount to be pay. This is under the contact policy law that the agency is implementing.
In the instant that they regard the notice, they cannot renew their license or their vehicle registration for they will be put into alarm list of the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
The 60 kilometer per hour speed limit in the Commonwealth Avenue was implemented by the MMDA last January 25. Since then a lot of motorist have been violating this rule.
MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said that the 60 kilometer per hour speed rate was the right speed for drivers, especially to senior citizens to maintain their reflexes. This is according to the study that they have conducted. He also said that what they are protecting is the lives of every motorist and drivers by minimizing incidents.
