Several stage performers have been returning their talent fees earned while entertaining the family members of Moammar Gadhafi in the past.
Count Usher, for he is one of those entertainers who will return the paychecks he earned from Gadhafi’s family.
It was Monday when Usher stated that that he was sincerely troubled to learn about circumstances surrounding the Nikki Beach St. Bart’s event that took place on New Year’s Eve 2009.
He adds that he will be donating all of his personal proceeds from that event to various human rights organizations.
The New Year’s Eve party took play on the Caribbean island as for one of the dictator’s son, Must(–foul word(s) removed–)im Gadhafi. Such information was posted by WikiLeaks in accordance to the US diplomatic cables.
It was known to be a $1million personal concert as what the cables called it. Aside from usher, Beyonce was also with him who has performed.
Through a representative, Beyonce on the other hand said that she used the money as a donation for the victims of Haiti earthquake.
The cables also said that it was on the same island where the aid Gadhafi son made Mariah Carey sang four songs in the New Year’s Eve 2008.
Last week, a statement from Carey was released saying that she had been “naïve and unaware of who I was booked to performed for. I feel horrible and embarr(–foul word(s) removed–)ed to have participated in this mess”.
Carey also mentions in her statements that she was planning to donate proceeds t human rights organizations from a new song “Save the Day”.
Carey even mentions that such happenings must be considered as a lesson for the artists to learn from. Where, they must be aware and be responsible at the same time knowing that they themselves are artists known to be held accountable.
Moreover, pop singer Nelly Furtado also admitted on her Twitter account that she herself had as well made performance to entertain the Gadhafi clan members.
Furtado tweeted Monday saying, “In 2007, I received 1million$ from Qaddafi clan to perform a 45 minutes how for guests at a hotel in Italy.
Added to that is a statement saying that she is going to donate the dollars.
Even pop star Lionel Richie was also brought by the Gadhafis to perform in Libya in the year 2006.
