
The prosecutor charged capital murder to the two men in slaying and robbery of a young pastor in his church in Texas, Monday.
The two men charged for murder were the 24-year-old Steven Lawayne Nelson and 19-year-old Gregory Srpings are now facing attempted murder case, robbery and beating of a church employee of a NorthPointe Baptist Church, Thursday.
“It’s too early to proclaim if they will seek the death penalty for the two murderers” said the Attorney’s Office of the Prosecutors in the Tarrant County District.
The victim pastor Rev. Clint Dobson’s cause of death according to the Tarrant County medical examiner was suffocation by a plastic bag. He was a gifted communicator described by the church members and a caring pastor. The funeral service was planned for Wednesday.
Soon after the crime on Thursday, detectives from Arlington found one of the credit cards of the victim was used to purchased jewelry and shoes. Later, soon after the incident the police obtained footage surveillance from the store showing both men were using the credit cards stolen from the victim, according to the police documents released on Monday.
Springs told the police, Nelson robbed the church and kill Dobson by suffocating through plastic bag and give him an item that belong to the victim, Friday after he was arrested.
Springs also told the police that Nelson was driving the car of the church employee and he met Nelson Thursday at a gas station, according to police documents.
Springs declined to say that he had been at the church during the day of incident. Jaime Ayala the Deputy Chief said that Springs was a person of interest by what he said and he is now charged in the case.
During the report about the pastor’s death, two women told the police that Nelson and Springs both committed robberies and had been trying to rob other people in recent days, according to the documents.
According to the public records, Nelson has previous convictions including aggravated (–foul word(s) removed–)ault with deadly weapon, theft and burglary. Springs has no public records showing previous convictions.
