1974 Miss Universe Amparo Muños has died at 56 last February 27, 2011 after her long illness at her own home in Malaga, Spain where her family refused to disclose.

Muños was crowned Miss Universe in the Philippines in 1974 when the international beauty pageant was held in the country.

Muños was the first Spanish actress crowned as Miss Spain and became Miss Universe in 1974 but surrendered the title after six months due to the organizers discrepancies, the Typically Spanish reports.

Muños came back Philippines after winning the pageant and shoot the movie “Hayop sa Ganda” with ‘1969 Miss Universe Gloria Diaz’, said Ricky Lo of ‘The Philippine Star.’ However, she clashed with a talent-scout-producer and she swapped court charges and went home with huff.

According to Lo’s column in 2006, Muños was rumored to have died from ‘AIDS’ more than a decade ago. That year Muños suffered of cerebral disease, not ‘AIDS’ according to Lo who wrote about the condition of Muños published in Cronica a Spanish newspaper.

“I got sick the same day my Papa died of pulmonary infection. I was totally overwhelmed by my Papa’s death because I was not able to ask him forgiveness for all wrongdoings that I did. I felt little symptoms at first. I would faint when tying my shoes” quoted Ricky Lo.

“I consulted a doctor and he told me, ‘I am afraid you have brain cancer.’ Soon, I was often vomiting and feeling tremors. I came back to be checked by my doctor again who have diagnosed abnormal growth in my cerebellum and immediately I underwent chemotherapy” added Muños.

Muños was born to a cl(–foul word(s) removed–)-working family in hometown of Velez Malaga, Spain on June 21, 1954. She lived about 18-months like a recluse at her parents’ home prior to her death.

The family of Muños requested to have a complete privacy at the funeral time.
