Gary Ruiz the lead exterior designer of the multi-awarded Chevy Volt is one of the proudest Filipino-American who will showcase his ingenuity during the anticipated 2011 Chicago Auto Show. The Chicago Auto Show is America’s largest and longest running auto show that is highly anticipated not only by the American public but by worldwide auto enthusiasts.

Chevy volt is one of the highly favored electric vehicle that will surely catched the attentions of thousands of attendees of 2011 Chicago Auto Show that will also celebrate its 103rd edition. The show will kick-off on friday February 11 through Sunday February 20, 2011.

General Motors have once again proved that the company can produced one of the most environment-friendly vehicles through the introduction of Chevy Volt. The man behind the exterior design of the Volt was a Filipino-American named Gary Ruiz.

Gary Ruiz was a Filipino-American born and raised in Cleveland Ohio, a pharmacist in occupation but later found his p(–foul word(s) removed–)ion in design. He was in-charged for the leadership of E-Flex Design Studio, a high priority project of General Motors that will be charged with the aesthetics of the exterior design of Chevy Volt.

Chevy Volt is an electric vehicle that will run 40 miles on pure electricity before the engines kicks in. It is powered by lithium-ion battery which is similar to a cellphone or laptop. It has an intelligent module which allows plugging with a 240 volt or 120 volt power outlet. Charged time will be less than 3 hours with a 240 volt while 8 hours for a 120 volt.

The Chevy Volt’s electric motor will produce a 149 horse power and 273  pound feet of torque. In order to send the electric motors power to the front wheel a single reduction gear was used. The internal combustion engine will be used only when 70% of the battery is depleted or the E85 will kicks in to recharge the battery.
