Michael Hussey is in a great doubt for this year’s Cricket World Cup after he received a surgery on his left leg just moments after being named in Australia’s world cup squad. Hussey had hurt his left hamstring in an ODI at Melbourne on last Sunday, at first he believed the problem was minor. But later on, radiology department had something else installed for him, the hamstring tendons of his left knee had torn from the inner side of it.
Alex Kountouris, who is physiotherapist of his team said “”The recovery time and availability for the World Cup will be dependent on his progress with the rehabilitation programme in the coming weeks,”. As far as remaining three matches are concerned (of the Ashes Tour ODI matches), Shaun Marsh who now has a big chance of playing at his first World Cup been replaced for Hussey.
First match of Australian team in the World Cup is on February 21st vs Zimbabwe at Ahmedabad. And the knockout matches will start one month later whereas Hussey is quite an important batsman who should be allowed to commence in world cup when quarter-finals matches are approaching. If we go through a flashback, Australia were in almost same situation at the last world cup when Andrew Symonds was injured, but later he made a stunning entrance to the team and helped them to win the glorious trophy.
“It’s just happened at a bad time, obviously Mike’s a key player of our squad so he’s in this squad, but a final decision whether he’s going to be fit or not will be made closer to our departure date.” Hilditch Said after knowing that Hussey will go through a surgery.
And that’s not all, Ricky Ponting has also injured his pinky finger when fielding during the 3rd Test of Ashes tour at Perth and was forced by the nature to miss the remaining match, and later he was ruled out of remaining ODI matches. Though he is hoping that his pinky will be all right before the biggest tournament of all begins.
Ponting precisely said “I’m hoping to be right for the start of the World Cup, my finger’s coming along okay, I guess. I haven’t been able to do anything for the last couple of weeks post-surgery, but I’ve got a bit more movement now.”
He further said “I’m pretty keen to get a bat back in my hands again and I’m going to be around the team, certainly this week down in Hobart for the second game,” hence his finger is still injured but it will be inspected once a week by a doctor.
