For the past few years Google dominated the web as the top destinations in terms of number of visits, different companies tried to catch up with them but none have succeeded. Google seems to be invincible, but not for the young man who brought a different approach in searching for information. Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook definitely have a different approach, his social networking model have so far proven to be an effective tool to finally bring down the giant.

According to Experian Hitwise, Facebook accumulated a total of 8.93% unique visitors compared to Google’s 7.25%. Facebook was also the top search term for second straight year.  The Hitwise findings was also confirmed by Comscore.  Although Google still leads in terms of market revenue which is four times larger than Facebook’s $45 billions worth.

While people searched google for information and look for a place to stay, websurfers searched for the termed facebook and stay most of time online in the website’s vast array of information. Facebook’s term share, likes, and comments have definitely change our outlook of getting information that is more reliable and personalized. With over 350,000 facebook likes intalled in different sites, online environment becomes participatory and social.

Still google dominates the web when all of their companies combined including youtube and gmail with 9.9% shares, Facebook with 8.9% shares and yahoo ranked third with 8.1% shares. There is still a long way to go for facebook but they are on the right track of finally dethroning Google as king of the online world.
