Indian Rocket Explodes After Launch

For the past few years there had been a number of incidents in the history of space explorations and India the second most populous country in the world with over 1.2 billion inhabitants and considered as the youngest member of the elite space exploring countries is not exempted at all. After the phenomenal success of their first ever attempt  in space exploration by  sending Chandrayaan-1 into the moon’s orbit. It was India’s first unmanned lunar probe, a project that cost 90 million U.S. Dollar. India is one of the fastest growing economies in the world today so they hope for advancement not only in the field of business process outsourcing but also in space travel.

India’s space program had been lauded by other countries for significantly reducing the cost of space travel. Although they are successful in their previous attempt an unexpected happened during yesterday’s launch of the GSLV-F06 (Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle) an explosion in mid-air was seen by millions of people who are closely following the event which was televised lived.  The time was 47 seconds after lift-off.  It was the second failure in just 6 months after GLSV-D3 launched also failed in April.

According to ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) the rocket was carrying a satellite that will be used in telemedicine, telecom,  weather services and television. It was a big blow to India’s space program,  after the lift-off the on board computer lost control of the actuation system so the scientists have no option but to press the self-destruction button to abort the ill-fated flight.

This failure have put division to India’s scientist some are worried about the uncertainty of their scheduled moon mission for this will be the launch vehicle for Chandrayan-II in 2013.  Although Former ISRO Chairman Dr. K Kasturirangan believes that the failure should not be a cause of concern, but  for ordinary Indian especially those who are working here in the Middle East it is indeed a major concern for the government have spent a lot of money in this particular project.
