Samsung Note 7: Reason Behind Explosions Revealed

The series of explosions of Samsung Note 7 causes a bad year for Samsung, the reason behind those explosions was revealed.

Samsung is very popular worldwide for its high-quality products such as television set, laptop, computer set, tablet, and most, especially on smartphones. The company is at its highest peak on the market but suddenly fall back after the series of explosions of their Note 7.

The unit was stopped from distribution due to its explosions for unknown reasons. Samsung conducts an investigation on the unit to find out the reason for catching fire and blowing up.

Instrumental, an engineering company has decided to conduct an investigation to find out the reason for explosions. The experts open and tore a Samsung Galaxy Note 7 to study the failure in the unit.

Anna Shedletsky, CEO and founder of ‘Instrumental’ explained that the battery of the unit was too big for the design of the smartphone. It has a very limited space inside where the battery has no room to expand due to increasing temperature during usage.

Due to this case chemicals of the battery leak and contact the positive (+) and negative (-) terminal of the unit which causes the explosion due to short-circuit.

“The Note 7’s lithium-polymer battery is a flattened “jelly-roll” consisting of a positive layer made of lithium cobalt oxide, a negative layer made of graphite, and two electrolyte-soaked separator layers made of polymer.  The separator layers allow ions (and energy) to flow between the positive and negative layers, without allowing those layers to touch.  If the positive and negative layers ever do touch, the energy flowing goes directly into the electrolyte, heating it, which causes more energy to flow and more heat — it typically results in an explosion. Compressing the battery puts pressure on those critical polymer separator layers that keep the battery safe,” explained by Instrumental quoted by fhm.

The company concludes that the unit itself is the problem due to insufficient space provided for the unit. Samsung loss with an estimated $5 billion for the Note 7 cases worldwide.
