The Supreme Court of the Philippines ordered for the conduct of an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the issuance of a search warrant that led to the death of Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr. and his fellow inmate inside the Baybay City Jail, before dawn of Saturday.
The search warrant was directed to a team of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) of the Philippine National Police (PNP), and issued to the local chief executive, who allegedly engaged into a shootout in the course of resistance against the policemen.
Apat from Mayor Espinosa, a detainee in an adjacent cell, Raul Yap, was also killed in the shootout.
