Miriam Santiago’s Casket Arrives At Chapel

As former Senator Miriam Santiago’s casket arrives at the Immaculate Concepcion Cathedral in Quezon City, Thursday night, emotions and applause welcomed the late senator.

In a report by GMA News, the late senator’s supporters greeted her with a round and applause as her wake was opened to the public, allowing her supporters to visit and to pay their last respects.

The report added that the late senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago was wearing the red dress she wore on the first presidential debate, but was said to be replaced with blue one.

During the wake of the Santiago, her vice-presidential running mate Senator Bongbong Marcos was among the first to attend.

“Mabuti naman na maramdaman na siya’y isang kasama, hindi lang sa pagkakaibigan kundi sa trabaho pati,” Marcos said as quoted.

According to him, it was a great honor for him to be chosen as her vice president in the May 2016 elections.

“Napakalaking karangalan ang ibinigay niya sa akin, ng pagpili niya sa akin na maging vice president niya sa nakaraang halalan.”

Other former colleagues of the senator also came for a visit like former Candaba, Pampanga Mayor Jerry Pelayo, Sen. Pia Cayetano, Ilocos Norte Rep. Rudy Fariñas, and Rep. Sonny Belmonte.

Among the most number of supporters who came for a visit came from the youth sector who were known to be admirers of the late senator.

“Hindi kailanman mapapantayan ng kahit anong yaman sa mundo ‘yung naiambag niya sa aming mga kabataan,” said one of the youth supporters.

(What he contributed to the youth will never be surpassed by any riches in this world.)

The former senator battled with cancr peacefully gave her last breath on Thursday morning and was said to be brought to her final resting place on October 2 at the Loyala Memorial Park in Marikina City. Her son also lies in the said place.

The Senator was known to be the “Iron Lady of Asia”.
