Senator Poe On FOI Bill – As the Freedom of Information (FOI) Bill has been pushed by President Duterte, lawmakers have complimented the signing of the Executive Order of the bill, including Senator Grace Poe.

In an interview by ANC, Senator Poe said that the signing of Pres. Duterte on the executive order was already a milestone at least in the executive branch.

The Senator, one of the legislators who pushed the implementation of the FOI bill, even thanked the President for his move.

“Well, let me say in the first place that we thank the President for starting this at least in the Executive branch. This is already indeed a milestone, said Poe in the interview.

She pointed out that there are still many things to be done in connection with the FOI bill and expressed her anticipation of the implementation of the said bill.

“There are a lot of things that we need to continue with regard to the Freedom of Information in other branches of government but we await with much anticipation that full implementation in the Executive branch,” she added.

But Poe said that there are many things to be considered like the declarations of exceptions that can be found in the constitution like the ‘right to privacy’.

Poe pointed out that the said exceptions are needed to be tackled, also the penalties for the government officials who will not submit to the signed Executive Order.

Another step that the government needs to address according to Poe, are the penalties that must be given to the officials who will fail to comply with the said EO.

Senator Poe became a rival of Duterte during the Presidential race.

Does this mean that the signing of the Executive Order for the Freedom of Information Bill would lead to a really more transparent government?
