Jaclyn Jose Returns to Manila After Winning Best Actress in Cannes

Veteran drama actress and one of the country’s most prominent celebrity, Jaclyn Jose returns to Manila on Tuesday afternoon after her triumphant victory at the world-renowned Cannes Film Festival 2016. Jaclyn Jose won the Best Actress award in the prestigious film festival as she went up against some of the world’s brightest stars.

Jacklyn JoseBased upon the history of Cannes, it was the first acting honor for the Philippines in the world’s most prestigious film festival, Cannes. The victory of Jaclyn Jose is also her first international win so far since the day she started her acting career during the early 80’s.

Cannes Best Actress winner Jaclyn Jose arrived in Manila on board an Emirates Airlines flight at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 at around 4:30 PM, May 24, 2016.

The 52-year-old Jaclyn Jose arrived in the Philippines together with her daughter Andi Eigenmann who was also part of the movie “Ma’ Rosa” and their director fellow Cannes awardee director Brillante Mendoza. Director Brillante Mendoza made a name for himself when he was adjudged as Best Director during the 2009 edition of Cannes Film Festival.

During the arrival of Jaclyn Jose at NAIA, she thanked the Filipinos who prayed for her victory at the prestigious film festival, Cannes 2016. She was quoted as saying “Alay ko po sa lahat ng Pilipino ang tropeo na ito. Sana po mapanood ninyo ang ‘Ma’ Rosa,” Jose said.

Jaclyn Jose is the first Southeast Asian actress to win the prestigious award. She starred in Brillante Mendoza’s Palme d’Or nominated film “Ma’ Rosa.”
