‘Why Many Bank Accounts?’ Says Sen. Miriam Santiago
Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago recently called on his “good friend” Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte about his recent controversy about his multiple bank accounts.
In a report in Inquirer, the Senator expressed how she was shocked of the allegations of made by Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV that the Mayor has 17 accounts in the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) allegedly totaling into P227 million in deposits last 2014.
The report says that those accounts were joint accounts of Duterte and daughter Sara at the BPI Julia Vargas Avenue branch, BPI Edsa Greenhills, and Banco de Oro Unibank, Mandaluyong. According to Trillanes, the transactions reached about P2.4 billion from 2006 to 2015.
In an interview of Inquirer to Santiago, the senator said, “Why are there so many bank accounts? What did he use them for?”
Santiago admitted that he houses of the Mayor were “always very humble”.
These alleged amounts of money, according to Trillanes were not stated in the statement of assets, liabilities, and net worth.
Duterte then said that these reports by Trillanes were just made up but later, admitted that the accounts existed but were ‘birthday gifts’
Regarding the statement of Duterte about stopping criminality within three to six months, Sen. Miriam said that some of the statements are ‘ill-reasoned’.
“Some of the statements have been ill-reasoned. I think he would try to clarify that in subsequent pronouncements, but some of the statements make us doubt his allegiance to the rule of law,” said Sen. Santiago.
Santiago added that Duterte must make it sure that people will have the right to protection of the law no matter what status a person has.

I think MDS is right? It’s easier said than done. Well, denying and admittance means a person really lies not only to himself but also to the public. The evidence is visible, but people sometimes are blind and deaf, they just don’t have a good judgment and their reasoning ability is clouded by their fanatic point of views. Why go with the flow of the river, if it ends up in a pool of crocodiles that could devour you. Sometimes we just need to sit down and ponder things before making decisions, because in the end, if the person you elected sits down, it is too late to change our mind, we cannot go back in time. Time is running up, we need to move on. We cannot just sit down and wait for the miracles to happen.
