Sen. Bongbong Marcos: Timing Not Right for Him to be President (Video)

One of the country’s most prolific lawmaker, Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. revealed on Wednesday that he decided to seek the vice-presidency instead of the country’s highest post because the timing wasn’t right. The senator also stated the Aquino administration has not been supportive of the Marcoses.

The lawmaker from Ilocos Norte also stated that the Aquino administration will oppose anything they will do as a family.

Sen. Marcos was quoted as saying “As we all know, I have – this administration has not exactly been supportive of any of the Marcoses. Anything that we will do is going to be opposed as policy by this administration,” Marcos said in his first press conference after announcing his vice-presidential bid.

The 58-year-old Bongbong Marcos also added that the time was just not right for him to run for president this time.

He added: “The time was just not right to run for president this time. As we always say, the presidency and even the vice-presidency is a question of destiny. We do all that we can to hopefully gain some kind of advantage when it comes to the elections but destiny will tell you what it is to do and I believe that it is that, it is the voice of wisdom that I hear, when I speak and when I think to myself and I look around and I examine the political terrain.”

“I believe I can do a great deal as a vice-president.”

Based upon the history of the Philippines, the Marcos family has long been dogged by accusations the dictator oversaw massive human rights abuses and plundered billions of dollars from state coffers until 1986 People Power revolution that toppled the Marcos regime.

According to some political analysts, Sen. Marcos’ decision to run for Vice President in the 2016 elections is widely seen as a stepping stone to an eventual presidential bid in the future.
