Inverted Philippine Flag by Filipino SEA Games Athlete Went Viral

The Philippine delegation to the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Singapore in now ranked at sixth spot with a total of 12 gold, 17 silver and 29 bronze medals surpassing the former No. 6 ranked team Myanmar due to the five-gold medal haul of the Filipinos on Tuesday. Despite the achievement made by Filipinos in the SEA Games, a controversial issue was raised online after some netizens saw the inverted Philippine flag on the uniform of Filipino track and field athletes.

The photo which was posted on Facebook went viral immediately after it was shared by thousands of Filipinos online. Although some people may not notice the mistake of the flag design, most netizens agreed that the Philippine team should scrutinize the design of the Philippine delegation’s uniform.

Some netizens just noted that what is important is the gold medal victory brought about by the athletes and not the mistakes of their uniforms.

According to Philippine history, the display of Philippine flag with its red symbol on top of the blue marker means war. The red symbol should always be below the blue as prescribed by the national government.
