A Metro Rail Transit (MRT) train overshot the EDSA-Taft Avenue Station in Pasay City Metro Manila and slammed through its barrier on Wednesday afternoon, August 13, 2014, causing injuries to at least 20 people.
According to MRT a total of ten passengers were injure, three of them were reportedly in serious conditions. The victims were rushed immediately to the Pasay City General Hospital while the 10 more passengers were brought to the San Juan de Dios Hospital in Pasay City.
The derailed MRT train incident happened at past 1:00 PM according to MRT and LRT authorities. In a recent interview with Light Rail Transit Authority spokesman Hernando Cabrera he confirmed that a train with passengers stalled while approaching the EDSA-Taft Station after its brakes “cramped.”
The LRTA spokesman also added that a vacant train was dispatched to pushed the stalled unit towards the EDSA-Taft Station. However, while it was being pushed by the vacant train, it broke free and overshot the station while its passengers were still inside.
Meanwhile the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) already reported that the MRT station’s operations has resumed as of 5:00 PM on Wednesday but there would be a delay of train arrivals at the damaged station.
